Taxonomy
Thamnastraea confusa was named by Winckler (1861) [Thamnasteroid colonial coral.]. It is not extant.

It was recombined as Astraeomorpha confusa by Roniewicz (1989), Prinz (1991), Stanley (1994), Caruthers and Stanley (2008), Shepherd et al. (2012) and Roniewicz and Stanley (2013).
