Taxonomy
Astrocoenia gibbosa was named by Duncan (1867). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jhirk, Sind, Pakistan, which is in a Selandian/Thanetian reef, buildup or bioherm horizon in Pakistan. It is the type species of Stelidioseris.

It was recombined as Actinastrea gibbosa by Turnsek et al. (1975) and Beauvais (1976); it was recombined as Allocoeniopsis gibbosa by Johnson and McKerrow (1995) and Kiessling (2008); it was recombined as Stelidioseris gibbosa by Tomes (1893) and Löser (2012).
