Nerita lineata was named by Röding (1798) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Indian Ocean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Natica lineata by Oostingh (1935) and Crame (1984); it was recombined as Tanea lineata by Majima (1989).
