Volutilithes philippiana was named by Dall (1890) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Chile.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Adelomelon (Miomelon).

It was recombined as Adelomelon (Miomelon) philippiana by Dall (1907); it was recombined as Miomelon philippiana by Nielsen and Frassinetti (2007).
