Voluta brasiliana was named by Lamarck (1811) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; South America.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Pachycymbiola.

It was recombined as Pachycymbiola brasiliana by Ihering (1907) and Nielsen and Frassinetti (2007).
