Taxonomy
Leiotrochus distans was named by Conrad (1862) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Maryland.]. It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Leiotrochus.

It was recombined as Calliostoma distans by Martin (1904); it was recombined as Calliostoma (Leiotrochus) distans by Gardner (1947) and Woodring (1957).
