Leptoseris santaciliaensis was named by Altuna et al. (2007). Its type locality is Santa Cilia, Bartonian Corals, Pamplona fm, Pyrenees, which is in a Bartonian reef, buildup or bioherm marl in the Pamplona Formation of Spain.
