Taxonomy
Synechodus andersoni was named by Case (1978). Its type specimen is MTA 4, a tooth, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Paraorthacodus andersoni by Siverson (1992), Hoganson et al. (2019) and Jambura et al. (2024).
