Buccinum cornutum was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Neogene-Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Cassidea cornuta by Bruguière (1792); it was recombined as Cassis (Cassis) cornuta by Schenck (1926); it was recombined as Cassis cornuta by Martin (1879), Wilson (2002) and Beu (2005).
