Cyathophyllum compositum was named by Sowerby (1835). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Synastrea composita by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1849); it was recombined as Thamnastraea composita by Reuss (1854); it was recombined as Dimorphastrea composita by Turnsek (1997).
