Thecosmilia charlyana was named by Frech (1890). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Paradistichophyllum charlianum by Melnikova (1975); it was recombined as Margarosmilia charlyana by Stanley (1994), Turnsek (1997) and Caruthers and Stanley (2008).
