Lepraliellidae was named by Vigneaux (1949).
It was synonymized subjectively with Reteporidae by Bassler (1953).
It was assigned to Cheilostomatida by Lee et al. (1997); to Ascophorina by Gordon and Taylor (1999); to Cheilostomata by Bock (2006); and to Lepralielloidea by Gordon et al. (1994), Schmidt (2003), Gordon and Taylor (2015) and Di Martino and Taylor (2015).
