Gigantoporidae was named by Bassler (1935). It is extant. Its type is Gigantopora.
It was assigned to Ascophora by Canu and Bassler (1935), Brown (1952), Bassler (1953) and Cheetham (1962); to Cheilostomatida by Lee et al. (1997); to Cheilostomata by Bock (2006); and to Schizoporelloidea by Brown (1958), Schmidt (2003), Guha and Gopikrishna (2007), Gordon and Taylor (2015) and Di Martino and Taylor (2015).
It was assigned to Ascophora by Canu and Bassler (1935), Brown (1952), Bassler (1953) and Cheetham (1962); to Cheilostomatida by Lee et al.
