Hiantoporidae was named by Gregory (1893). It is extant. Its type is Hiantopora.

It was assigned to Malacostega by Bassler (1953); to Membraniporidae by Brown (1958); to Anasca by Canu and Bassler (1935) and Pouyet (2000); to Cheilostomata by Bock (2006); and to Calloporoidea by Schmidt (2003) and Berning (2006).
