Beania is a late taxonomic synonym of disused Sphaereda Lindley & Hutton (1835), which is proposed by Doweld (2013) for conservation.

Beania was named by Carruthers (1869). It is not extant. Its type is Beania gracilis. It is the type genus of Beaniaceae.
It was assigned to Beaniaceae by Meyen (1984); and to Cycadales by Andrews (1970) and Kiessling (2003).
