Zemacies was named by Finlay (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani T Plio-u Sepkoski's reference number: 728,899]. Its type is Zemacies clatior.

It was assigned to Turriculinae by Woodring (1970); to Turrinae by Beu et al. (1990); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Zemaciinae by Sysoev (2003); and to Borsoniidae by Bouchet et al. (2011).
