Spanocricetodon ningensis
Taxonomy
Spanocricetodon ningensis was named by Li (1977). Its type specimen is IVPP V4342, a mandible (sin with m1-m3), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Dongxuanguan beds, Fangshan, Jiangning county, Nanjing, which is in a Miocene terrestrial sandstone/claystone in China. It is the type species of Spanocricetodon.

Cusps and reentrants are spaciously open, ectomesolophid is extremely short and crescentic, occlusal morphology is simplified and a mesolophid is absent, The m1 anteroconid is simplified as a small compressed and narrow cusp. The m3 is conspicuously reduced and lacks an entoconid. Dentition is parallel to the axis of the mandible. |
