Microsolena hassimguitaensis was named by Beauvais and Nouiouat (1993). Its type locality is Hassi Mguita, Ouled Nails Mountains, Unit R IV, which is in an Oxfordian/Kimmeridgian perireef or subreef limestone in Algeria.
