Stagonolepis robertsoni was named by Agassiz (1844). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lossiemouth West & East Quarries, Elgin, which is in a Carnian/Norian dune sandstone/sandstone in the Lossiemouth Sandstone Formation of the United Kingdom.

Synonyms
  • Ebrachosaurus singularis was named by Kuhn (1936) [Whereabouts of type material is unknown (was in BSPG, Munich), and was probably destroyed in WW2]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ebrach, bed number 13, which is in a Carnian lacustrine sandstone in the Hassberge Formation of Germany.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Stagonolepis robertsoni by Desojo et al. (2013).
