Schizodus acuminatus

Taxonomy
Schizodus acuminatus was named by Hoare et al. (1978) [Schizodus cuneatus? GIRTY,1903, p 439, P1. 9 fig. 10 [not] Schizodus cuneutus Meek 1875, p 336, P1 20, fig i]. Its type specimen is OSU 27359, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is LIho-4. along the north-south road ~ 0.8 km north of former Fairview School and south of BR 1085, which is in an Atokan coastal shale/limestone in the Pottsville Formation of Ohio.

Hoare et al. 1978Shell medium-sized, inequilateral, equivalved, subtrigonal; beaks high, incurved, prosogyrate; umbonal areas high and inflated; anterior margin uniformljcurved, not produced; posterior margin sharply truncate, forming an acute angle with the ventral margin; marginal carina strongly developed, separating convex flanks from concave areas; escutcheon lacking.

Suboval anterior adductor scar located at anterior extremity; pallial line complete. Other interior features and surface ornamentation unknown. Measurements of the holotype are: length, 41.1 mm; height, 32.6 mm; thickness, 21.3 mm.
