Goniocylindrites was named by Meek (1863) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath J Tith-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Cylindrites brevis.

It was assigned to Cephalaspida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cylindrobullinidae by Gründel and Nützel (2012).

J. Gründel and A. Nützel 2012The shell is cylindrical with planispiral or slightly concave spire. The whorls embrace at the adapical edge of the preceding whorls so that the last whorl covers all preceding whorls in lateral view. The previous whorls are visible in apical view only. The aperture is high and narrow and lacks folds. The other characters are close to those of Cylindrobullina.
