Taxonomy
Aspidura squamosa was named by Picard (1858). It is the type species of Arenorbis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Aspidura (Amphiglypha) prisca by Pohlig (1878); it was recombined as Ophioderma squamosa by Benecke (1886), Klinghardt (1933) and Kutscher (1940); it was recombined as Acroura squamosa by Picard (1886) and Müller (1976); it was recombined as Aplocoma squamosa by Hess (1965); it was recombined as Arenorbis squamosus by Hess (1970), Radwanski (2002) and Hess and Meyer (2008).
