Pyrula bispinosa was named by Philippi (1844) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Melongena (Rexmela) bispinosa by Petuch and Roberts (2007); it was recombined as Melongena bispinosa by Hendy et al. (2008).
