Taxonomy
Prionastraea insignis was named by Duncan (1880). It is not extant. Its type locality is Bhagathoro Hill, Sind, which is in a Priabonian shallow subtidal limestone/sandstone in Pakistan.

It was recombined as Favites insignis by Schuster (2002); it was recombined as Goniastrea insignis by Baron-Szabo (2006).
