Taxonomy
Columbella elegans was named by Sowerby (1832) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Guatemala-Mexico. COMMENT: Type specimen and dimensions based on lectotype.]. It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH 1966249/1, a shell.

It was recombined as Columbella (Strombina) elegans by Tryon (1882); it was recombined as Strombina (Strombina) elegans by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Strombina (Spiralta) elegans by Jung (1989).
