Volvocylindrites was named by Cossmann (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-l K Nc]. It is not extant. Its type is Volvula marcousana.

It was assigned to Cephalaspida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cylindrobullinidae by Gründel and Nützel (2012).

J. Gründel and A. Nützel 2012The shell is cylindrical to spindle-shaped and tapers on both ends (anterior and posterior) (bulliform). The last whorl covers all previous whorls entirely (convolute). The aperture is elongated and narrow and extends on the posterior end of the shell. The columella has a single weak fold.
