Turritella mortoni was named by Conrad (1830) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Paleocene; Maryland, Virginia.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Palmerella, Kapalmerella.
It was recombined as Kapalmerella mortoni by Warren (2005); it was recombined as Palmerella mortoni by Allmon (1996) and Perrilliat et al. (2006).
