Taxonomy
Varanodon agilis was named by Olson (1965). Its type specimen is CNHM (FMNH) UR 986, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is BC-8 (Chickasha Formation), which is in a Roadian/Wordian deltaic shale/shale in the Chickasha Formation of Oklahoma.
