Taxonomy
Modiola alabamensis was named by Aldrich (1895) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Atlantic.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Modiolus alabamensis by Cooke (1936); it was recombined as Brachidontes alabamensis by Palmer and Brann (1965).
