Clavatula lobatopsis was named by Barnard (1963) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; South Africa. COMMENTS: Type and dimensions based on lectotype.]. It is extant. Its type specimen is SAM (no number), a shell.

It was recombined as Gemmula (Ptychosyrinx) lobatopsis by Sysoev (1996).
