Nerinea was named by Deshayes (1827) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath-m K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 120,122]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Gastropoda by Eichwald (1868); to Nerineidae by Allison (1955); to Nerinaeidae by von der Osten (1957); to Nerineinae by Kase (1984); and to Heterostrophia by Sepkoski (2002).
