Taxonomy
Nerinella was named by Sharpe (1849) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett K Maes]. It is the type genus of Nerinellidae.

It was assigned to Nerinellinae by Pchelintsev (1965) and Wieczorek (1979); to Nerineidae by Saul and Squires (1998); to Heterostrophia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nerinellidae by Saul and Squires (2002).

Squires 1998Slender, acicular multiwhorled nerineids of moderately large length but small diameter, with concave whorl profile, protruding sutural ridges (suture between two spiral ribs), and granulate spiral costae. Interior with one palatal plait, one or two columellar plaits, and a weak or absent parietal plait. No umbilicus.
