Cylichna oviformis was named by Meyer (1886) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is USNM 638837, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Atys oviformis by Cossmann (1893); it was recombined as Abderospira oviformis by Harris and Palmer (1947) and Palmer and Brann (1966).
