Taxonomy
Testudo scripta was named by Schoepff (1792). It is extant. It is the type species of Trachemys.

It was recombined as Pseudemys scripta by Adler (1968) and Holman (1987); it was recombined as Trachemys scripta by Hay (1902), Hay (1930), Seidel and Smith (1986), de Broin and de la Fuente (1993) and van Dijk et al. (2014).
