Otopleura was named by Fischer (1885) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi R Sepkoski's reference number: 614]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Heterostrophia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pyramidellidae by Jensen (1996) and Rosenberg et al. (2006).
