Taxonomy
Purpura crassilabrum was named by Sowerby (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Pliocene-Recent; Peru.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Crassilabrum.

It was recombined as Murex crassilabris by Potiez and Michaud (1838); it was recombined as Tritonalia crassilabrum by Dall (1909); it was recombined as Crassilabrum crassilabrum by DeVries (2005).
