Solen proxima was named by Deshayes (1856) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was corrected as Solen proximus by Morellet and Morellet (1945); it was recombined as Solena (Plectosolen) proxima by Le Renard and Pacaud (1995).
