Tellina altera was named by Deshayes (1857) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Arcopagia altera by Piccoli and Savazzi (1983); it was recombined as Arcopagia (Bertinella) altera by Le Renard and Pacaud (1995).
