Cytherea nitidula was named by Lamarck (1806) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Meretrix nitidula by Morellet and Morellet (1944); it was recombined as Aphrodina nitidula by Bone et al (1991); it was recombined as Callocardia nitidula by Tracey et al (1995); it was recombined as Callocardia (Nitidavenus) nitidula by Le Renard and Pacaud (1995).
