Microcallista was named by Stewart (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R]. It is extant. Its type is Cytherea proxima.

It was reranked as Callista (Microcallista) by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995) and Le Renard and Pacaud (1995).

It was assigned to Pitarinae by Vokes (1980); to Callista by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995) and Le Renard and Pacaud (1995); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
