Monoceros philippi was named by Möricke (1896) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Pliocene; Peru-Chile.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Nucella (Acanthinucella) philippi by Herm (1969); it was recombined as Acanthinucella philippi by de Muizon and DeVries (1985); it was recombined as Herminespina philippi by DeVries and Vermeij (1997).
