Trochus (Monodonta) patagonicus was named by d'Orbigny (1835) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene-Recent; South America.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Trochus patagonicus by d'Orbigny (1840); it was recombined as Neomphalius patagonicus by Ihering (1907); it was recombined as Tegula patagonica by Dall (1909) and da Silva Forti (1969); it was recombined as Tegula (Agathistoma) patagonica by Rios (1985); it was recombined as Agathistoma patagonicum by DeVries (2007).
