Cardium plumsteadianum was named by Sowerby (1813) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Protocardium plumsteadianum by Wrigley (1931) and Wrigley (1931); it was recombined as Nemocardium plumsteadianum by Le Renard and Pacaud (1995).
