Taxonomy
Phreatophasma aenigmaticum was named by Efremov (1954). Its type specimen is PIN 294/24, a limb element (femur), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Santagulov Mine, which is in an Ufimian/Kazanian marginal marine horizon in the Russian Federation.
