Taxonomy
Nautilus dekayi was named by Morton (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian-Maastrichtian; Atlantic Coastal Plain and Western Interior Seaway.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 19484, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Eutrephoceras dekayi by Miller (1947), Wiedmann (1960), Shimansky (1975), Mapes and Evans (1995) and Landman et al. (2007).
