Taxonomy
Cytherea elegans was named by Lamarck (1806) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Tivelina elegans by Burton (1933); it was recombined as Meretrix elegans by Morellet and Morellet (1944); it was recombined as Callista (Callista) elegans by Le Renard and Pacaud (1995).
