Ostrea patagonica was named by d'Orbigny (1842). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Crassostrea patagonica by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).

Synonyms
  • Ostrea ferrarisi was named by d'Orbigny (1842) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Argentina. TYPE SPECIMEN: based on syntypes MNHN Gg2002/107.]. Its type specimen is MNHN Gg2002/107, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Crassostrea patagonica by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
