Nucula glabra was named by Sowerby (1846) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Argentina.]. Its type specimen is NHM-L27966, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Scalpomactra glabra by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
