Candinia was named by Le Renard et al. (1996) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m T Plio Sepkoski's reference number: 1218]. Its type is Candinia pliocaenica.

It was assigned to Juliinae by Le Renard et al. (1996); and to Sacoglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
