Crassatella lyellii was named by Sowerby (1846) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Argentina.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Crassatellites lyellii by Ihering (1907); it was recombined as Spissatella lyellii by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
